The Course

Hole by Hole Description

1st Hole

 Men
 360 yards
 Par 4
 index 9
 Ladies
 353 yards
 Par 4
 index 9

Unseen bunkers at about 200 yards lurk right and left to catch the stray drive.  A straight ball will leave you well positioned to take on the heavily guarded, undulating green.
2nd Hole

 Men
 167 yards
 Par 3
 index 17
 Ladies
 151 yards
 Par 3
 index 15

From the elevated tee you can see the challenge, 5 bunkers and a narrow entrance.
3rd Hole

 Men
 393 yards
 Par 4
 index 13
 Ladies
 373 yards
 Par 4
 index 3

A tricky long par 4 with bunkers left and right to catch a wayward drive.  The 2 tier green, guarded by deep bunkers means that making par is difficult.
4th Hole

 Men
 418 yards
 Par 4
 index 1
 Ladies
 342 yards
 Par 4
 index 13

Accuracy and length are required to reach the fairway and give a chance of a second shot to the green.  Two bunkers await those who try to cut the slight dog leg and out of bounds patrols the right.  At the green the left front bunker or the swale behind it catches the unwary.
5th Hole

 Men
 400 yards
 Par 4
 index 5
 Ladies
 388 yards
 Par 4
 index 1

The tall trees on the left and right frame the drive.  Pull it left or push it right will find you amongst them.  A good drive is essential to avoid a lengthy second with the ever present danger of a watery grave to the left of the green.  The putting surface slopes back to front and there are few easy putts.
6th Hole

 Men
 185 yards
 Par 3
 index 15
 Ladies
 133 yards
 Par 3
 index 17

Normally straight into the wind this par 3 often leaves you short.   The two front bunkers catch the imperfect strike and the two bunkers left and right place a premium on accuracy.
7th Hole

 Men
 483 yards
 Par 5
 index 7
 Ladies
 399 yards
 Par 5
 index 7

Accuracy is the key to a birdie opportunity.  Pushing your drive to the right will result in a dropped shot.  Find the fairway to be sure of making the green.
8th Hole

 Men
 362 yards
 Par 4
 index 3
 Ladies
 334 yards
 Par 4
 index 5

Facing the prevailing wind is usually a factor here.  Those tempted to fly the dog leg will risk the trees on the right which are unforgiving.  A narrow approach to a sloping green surrounded by bunkers means you need to be on top of your game to avoid dropping shots.
9th Hole

 Men
 378 yards
 Par  4
 index 11
 Ladies
 340 yards
 Par 4
 index 11

A straight drive is a must to avoid snagging the swale on the right or being trapped by the trees on the left.  A neat second bisecting the bunkers will be appreciated by the audience in the clubhouse.
Halfway house.  Need a break?  The hatch opposite the 18th green is often open for food and a hot drink ordered on the spot.  Alternatively the professional has cold drinks and snack bars.
10th Hole

 Men
 152 yards
 Par 3
 index 18
 Ladies
 149 yards
 Par 3
 index 12

Wartime gravel extraction makes this a testing carry for the ladies.  Out of bounds on the right can be a problem with wind against but always a birdie chance with a sweet strike.
11th Hole

 Men
 367 yards
 Par 4
 index 12
 Ladies
 336 yards
 Par 4
 index 8

The marker post is the line.  Anything right leaves you fighting with the trees or flirting with out of bounds.  The angled green and two bunkers make the judgment of length crucial for the second shot.
12th Hole

 Men
 479 yards
 Par 5
 index 2
 Ladies
 436 yards
 Par 5
 index 6

A gentle fade from the tee will set up the second shot but beware the narrowing fairway and the distant water.  A birdie chance but too often a dropped shot results on this bunker free hole.
13th Hole

 Men
 350 yards
 Par 4
 index 8
 Ladies
 326 yards
 Par 4
 index 14

A 300 yard drive over the dog leg will nearly reach the green but most players will play to the left of the trees.  The barely visible double bunkers demand a special second shot if the pin is at the top.  The steep Mackenzie green makes a three putt all too easy from the wrong level.
14th Hole

 Men
 213 yards
 Par 3
 index 14
 Ladies
 168 yards
 Par 3
 index 16

The longest par 3 on the course.  The raised green takes a lot of reaching.  Many a ball has failed to make the up slope leaving an awkward chip and putt for par.  Trees and bunkers to the left and right add to the challenge.
15th Hole

 Men
 470 yards
 Par 5
 index 4
 Ladies
 448 yards
 Par 5
 index 4

From the tee split the waiting bunker right and firs left at just over 200 yards.  Cross bunkers threaten the indifferent second shot whilst the bunker just short of the green awaits the big hitter.  The rear of the green slopes steeply back to front and may thwart the birdie putt.
16th Hole

 Men
 150 yards
 Par 3
 index 16
 Ladies
 143 yards
 Par 3
 index 18

The signature hole against the prevailing wind.  Only a good swing on line will promise a par.  Even the bunkers are a haven compared to the 30 foot drop left or the tree lined valley right.  Courage required if you have a good card.
17th Hole

 Men
 470 yards
 Par 5
 index 6
 Ladies
 417 yards
 Par 5
 index 6

Clear the chasm and find the angled fairway well clear of the right hand trees.  The second plays straight to the transverse bunkers with gorse left and trees right. Playing short of the bunkers will leave about 140 yards to the Mackenzie green.  With the flag on the top tier you have a very small landing area, anything long will roll off into a swale of rough.
18th Hole

 Men
 472 yards
 Par 5
 index 10
 Ladies
 430 yards
 Par 5
 index 10

A good drive avoiding trees right and rough left leaves the option of an attacking second.  However, the glade on the right fronting the out of bounds and the bunker short of the green left calls for decisive judgment. The putting surface sloping from back to front and right to left may deny you a final birdie.

Whatever your score, the Clubhouse is welcoming and the companionship warm.
